Purpose:
The Family Selection Committee works to carry out the Board’s vision by defining the population in need of decent, affordable housing, and by developing processes and policies for selecting those families.
Member’s Skills and Attributes:
The size of the Family Selection Committee will vary depending on the needs of the particular affiliate, but it should range between 5 and 12 members. The Committee should have a Chair, a Board Liaison and members responsible for conducting home visits and reviewing applications.
- Have good “social/people” skills
- Know the three selection criteria
- Understand how to read credit reports
- Be comfortable conducting home visits
- Know HFHI House Design Criteria and understand the principles the design criteria is based on
- Know the parameters for decisions families can and cannot make regarding house design and decorating options
- Be familiar with the work of the other committees, especially the Family Support and Site Selection committees
- Know the “Lines of Communication” between the family and the affiliate
- Know how to develop annual plans and budgets
